Prayer is our most powerful weapon for good! I was privileged to receive an invitation from my friend, US Representative French Hill, to attend the 65th Annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, February 2, 2017. World leaders joined President Donald Trump, along with hundreds of US lawmakers, pastors, business people and dignitaries at this historic event.
Arkansans who pray for the president got the chance to pray with the president and other world leaders.
U.S. Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark., co-chairman of this year’s National Prayer Breakfast, sat beside the new commander in chief, rising to welcome the audience and to introduce Vice President Mike Pence.
Hours later, at a prayer lunch, former U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., dined with royalty, talking about Syrian refugees and Fulbright scholars with King Abdullah II of Jordan.
The evening before the Prayer Breakfast, I joined Congressman Hill, who is on House Financial Services Committee Leadership Team, at a private meeting with representatives from a variety of well-known US financial institutions. Congressman Hill’s expertise from years of banking experience was evident as he fielded questions from attendees. We, Arkansans and all Americans, are fortunate to have the Congressman providing wise counsel and solid financial advice to lawmakers.
The highlight of the evening for me was joining Representative Hill for an exclusive “after hours” tour of the Capitol. This tour included about 100 lawmakers, spouses, and dignitaries. Our tour was led by David Barton, founder of Wall Builders, who repeatedly emphasized how our legacy of faith in Jesus Christ is central to the future governing of our country! We had a wonderful time that concluded in prayer in the chamber of the House of Representatives.
